Poble Espanyol - Spanish village
El Poble Espanyol de Montjuic. Spanish village Barcelona. Address and map. Poble Espanyol is an open air museum in Barcelona set in a 'Spanish village' made up of architectural styles from all the different parts of Spain. Buy tickets online. The village has restaurants, cafes, bars, art galleries and artisan handicraft shops and 'live' workshops working in glass, leather, ceramics and jewellery.

There is also a 'Fiesta' multimedia show highlighting Spain's most popular and famous cultural festivals, celebrations and landscapes. For flamenco lovers you can find one of Barcelona's best flamenco shows, called El Tablao de Carmen. In the summer there are also open-air night clubs and every night from June to September there are outdoor live blues concerts.

The Spanish village has an area of 50,000 m2. It was built for the 1929 Barcelona International Exhibition so that visitors could experience all of Spain in one "Spanish village". The 117 buildings, streets and squares in the Poble Espanyol village represent different styles from regions of Spain.

Its creators visited 1,600 towns and villages of the Iberian Peninsula and Southern Portugal to choose the buildings that would be reproduced for Poble Espanyol. It was constructed in just thirteen months and was only intended to be open for the six months of the 1929 Universal Exhibition, but it was such a great success that it stayed open ever since as an open air museum.

El Poble Espanyol combines history and art with around forty art and craft workshops showcasing historic Spanish handmade production techniques in ceramics, engraving, decorative painting, glass blowing, puppet-making, jewellery, masks, fans, sculpture, leather, embroidery, basket-weaving, musical instrument-making, espadrille-making and many others.
